On Your Mark! Get Set... INVESTIGATE!!! Third grade math is geared towards learning all of the ways to solve a math problem. No one way is the best. Students will use strategies to help them think about the process as well as the answer. We will have a Problem of the Day that will be kept in a math notebook to provide reinforcement of the strategies that are presented. We love using manipulatives in third grade as well as learning by playing math games. We use a hands-on approach to help with our investigations. Our favorite of course, is learning multiplication! As much as it is important that the students memorize their facts, it is also important for them to understand the skill to help them solve any problem that may seem complex. Using mental math and subtracting 3 digit numbers with borrowing will need reinforced throughout the year. It is a good idea to keep those flashcards handy! We have math races frequently against the other third grade! What fun! (and practice!) Students will be responsible for taking the AIR Performance Based Assessment on the computer this year. Every strategy learned and practiced during the year will benefit the students on this math assessment.
