Students analyze different forms of literary and informational text. Students will cite with textual evidence, study theme, central idea, complex characteristics within various genres, figurative and connotative meanings, and examine many literary devices. Works studied will include American, British, and World Literature. Students will also compose pieces of argumentative writing with claims and evidence, informational/expository writing, and narrative writing emphasizing word choice and organization. In addition, students will become familiar with citation and analyze sources for reliablility. Students will also be learning many forms of speaking and listening skills and will participate in partner and group discussions. The students will become more familiar with wrting conventions in the forms of parallel structure, types of phrases, word relationships, clauses, semicolons, and colons. Students will be expected to read and compose complex texts. This course wil cover the Common Core Standards set forth by the Ohio Department of Education.
