We are learning:

Reading:  Sight words: a, I

                Letters/sounds: t, f, b

                Story: Chicka Chicka Boom Boom

                Skills: Predicting and Making Connections with what we read 

Writing: How to tell a story using detailed pictures;  retelling our stories by pointing to parts of our pictures

Math: Putting items into groups based upon attributes and counting them; exploring different math manipulatives, including unifix cubes, polydrons, and pattern blocks

Important Reminders:

We have our first library and technologu class this Tuesday!

No School Friday and Monday!

Week of September 3, 2018

We are learning:

Reading:  Sight words: have, look

         Letters/sounds: h, n, m, r

         Story: Stand Tall, Molly Lou Melon

         Skills: Visualizing what is happening in a story and discussing the problem and solutions of a story 

Writing: Continuing to label parts of our illustrated stories; providing details about the setting of a story through pictures

Math: Comparing the number of items in groups; exploring more math manipulatives, including geoboards and pennies with ten frames

Important Reminders:

Scholastic book orders are due Monday, September 10!

Week of September 10, 2018:

We are learning:

Reading:  Sight words: at, in

                Letters/sounds: l, i, c, a, d

                Story: The Recess Queen

                Skills: Discussing the characters and setting of a story; giving one’s opinion on what happens in a story 

Writing: Sharing our stories with classmates; working towards copying and completing simple sentences (such as “I see a ______”) with pictures in our writing journals

Math: Exploring combinations of 5; correctly writing numbers 1-5

Writing: capitalizing names and places; matching illustrations with our words when writing

Math: combinations of 10

Important Reminders:

Parent/Teacher conferences are this Thursday, October 11, from 2:30pm-7:00pm.  Please call the main office to sign up for a time slot!

We have an early-release thus Thursday and no school Friday.

         Math: Using Popsicle sticks to learn about tallies and groups of 5

Writing: writing about our opinion of bats; making up and writing simple sentences on our own

Math: continuation of pattern-making; matching numbers to ten frames and tallies

Our field trip to Countryside Farms is this Friday, October 26!

Math: Attributes of hexagons, rhombuses, trapezoids, and triangles; introduction to counting by 2s
