  • WOW!!!  What awesome rock hunters we have in third grade!!!!  The rocks sent in were perfect and very interesting!!!!  Thank you!!!  We are getting so good at making and recording observations.

  • We are very excited to begin Italian class with Ms. DiRienzo next week! Ciao!!!

  • We are also very happy to have a computer class this year.  Students have already learned how to log on to their email accounts with Mrs. Firmstone. Can you believe today with me we created our first Google Doc and began typing a multi-paragraph essay that we’ve been working on in writing! WHAT!!!?! Yes!  The students are incredible!  Students may want to practice at home using the features on the keyboard so they will be familiar with responding to questions on the computer for their state test next month.  Any additional practice at home would be beneficial as well.  Some websites like Dance Mat or www.kidstyping.weebly.com will provide practice.

  • When available, I will send home any resources to help remind the students of the math lessons taught during school using our new math program.  (I already found and copied subtraction strategies for next week.  Look for those to come home soon!!!) Without an actual textbook to use as reference, I understand that some work can seem challenging.  Thank you for your patience.

  • Hopefully you will have a chance to create an account or download the app for Class Dojo.  A note came home today, along with an access code, that will help connect home and school on more of a daily basis of what is happening in class.  Please use the information to see what needs worked on and what is working well.

  • Book orders are due, Tuesday, Sept. 18th

  • Just a reminder that the office requires a note when a student returns to school after an absence.

Have a Great Weekend!!!!!

Go Little Rockets!!!!

  • Happy Birthday wishes went out to Dominic Moracco, who celebrated his special day on September 5th.   Thank you for the fun birthday treat!

  • There will be a PTO meeting on Wednesday, September 12th at 6:00.

  • Our first Scholastic Book order forms came home this week.  All orders need to be in by Tuesday, September 18th.

  • Students took their first Spelling test today.   Hopefully you had a chance to read over the FYI paper that came home explaining the format of the test.  Any spelling tests hung up on the Incredible Work board will be sent home the following week.

  • Please continue to check your child’s planner and Homework folder nightly.  Also all papers on the Finished side should be removed nightly.  Students need your help in making sure papers are organized and current.    It is extremely helpful to the students to have current papers only in the folder and beneficial to have completed papers reviewed on a regular basis.

  • I will be posting grades to Progress Book soon.  Even though you may have seen some graded papers coming home I hesitate to post grades right away. Sometimes a single grade posted in a subject area can look alarming, therefore I like to wait until there is more of an average so you can get a truer picture of progress made.

                                                              Have A Great Weekend!!!!

  • There will be no school on Friday, August 31st and Monday, September 3rd.  Enjoy your holiday time!

  • Our third graders are   6 !?   Do you in know that the students are already learning their second set of cursive letters that begin with an undercurve!? They even wrote words with as many as four letters all in cursive! We decorated our Number Corner bag and loaded it with the tools we will need each day to help us think and solve problems in math. We took our first poetry quiz today and we used a tool called a loop to help us observe the inside of a candy bar. Look for our first spelling test, homework to find a special rock, and a scholastic book order to come home all next week.

  • Please send in a note if your child is leaving a different way at the end of the day.  If you plan on leaving a message for me instead, please know that I may not get it after 1:00.  It is best to call the office directly and they will get the message to me.  Thank you

  • When students return from an absence, please send in a note/doctor’s excuse for the office.

  • Looking Ahead:  Jeans Day – Rocket shirts for $1.00 on September 5th
  •

Dear Family,

We have gotten off to an incredible start to school!  Thank you so much for preparing your child with the necessary school supplies requested.  Also, many thanks for making sure homework was completed and forms were returned this week.  Hope this is a very exciting indication of what the year will be like! J We enjoyed listening about how the students got their names. The letters were priceless.

Hopefully you have seen our new planner.  I typically do not send the planner home on weekends or holidays, nor do I plan for weekend homework or Monday tests if possible.  This planner has the student handbook right in the front for your convenience to check on the dress code, school policies, and other things.  You may even notice that our grading scale has changed.

We are still in the process of learning procedures, but the boys and girls are adjusting well and working hard.  I am very proud of them!!!!  The students have already discovered that they are real “scientists” and next week they will be putting their observation skills to the test. They had their first poetry quiz on The First Day and we began putting each student’s name on the “Wall” as we practiced our handwriting.  Did your child tell you that he/she wrote his/her first word in cursive!!!!!?  Very Exciting!!!!  The students found out what the word “incredible” meant and have been working in their composition books on ideas of what makes each of them so incredible.  We will begin building stamina to independently read books of our choosing.   We’ve certainly been busy and are ready for what’s aheadJ

                  Your child’s Specials schedule is:

Monday, Wednesday – Music -  Ms. Gapsky

Tuesday, Friday – PE  -  Mr. Ballone

Thursday – Computers – Mrs. Firmstone

Thursday –Library Day

Please visit our website frequently. It is http://www.lowellville.k12.oh.us/.  It contains very useful school wide information   On my particular website you can find our weekly homework, announcements, our weekly newsletter, as well as helpful websites, story titles, vocabulary and spelling lists.

All papers should be removed nightly from the Homework Folder.  The only papers that should come back are homework and forms or papers that require a signature and any notes.

I am so looking forward to keeping the smiles going all year long.J  If you have any concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at (330) 536-8426 Ext. 130 or email me at L.Matisi@lowellvilleschool.org.

Have a GREAT weekend!!!!!!
