Tips For Reading Books At Home

Tips for using the Books at Home:

  1. Make reading time a quiet, relaxing time.
  2. If your child struggles with a word that can be sounded out, you mat want to:
    • Ask your child to look at the word again.
    • Ask your child to say the sound of each letter as you point to it, and then blend the sounds together to say the word, for example, /m/ /a/ /n/, man.
  3.  Praise your child’s efforts.
  4.  Talk about the story. Ask your child to tell what part of the story he/she liked best or what a character might do next.

Like taking first steps and speaking words, attempting to read a book on his or her own is an important milestone in your child’s life. Enjoy it!
