Dear Lowellville Local School District students, staff, parents, and community,
It’s hard to believe that we are already approaching the end of the third nine-week grading period! As a reminder, spring break will begin on Friday, April 18th, and students will return to school on Wednesday, April 23rd.
This winter brought its fair share of challenges, with illnesses and the flu affecting many students and staff. As a result, we saw some dips in our daily, weekly, and monthly attendance. Let’s hope flu season is behind us so we can push through these final months of the school year together. Attendance plays a crucial role in student success, and we appreciate your continued efforts in encouraging regular school attendance.
We also have some exciting news to share! Thanks to the incredibly generous donation of Dr. Ray Bernat and his wife, Sherry, along with the support of United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley, we are thrilled to introduce a new resource for our students—The Ray Bernat Care Closet!
Care Closet Hours of Operation:
🕢 7:30 - 3:00 PM
Students needing resources outside these hours can contact a staff member for assistance.
The Care Closet is stocked with food, hygiene products, household essentials, and clothing items. A fridge and microwave are also available with kid-friendly, microwavable meal options. Our goal is to provide a welcoming, judgment-free space where students can access essential resources without stigma. Every student is welcome to use it!
Free Telehealth Counseling for Students:
We are also excited to share that Hazel Health provides free telehealth counseling for our students! Students can receive counseling services at no cost during the school day or at home. This is a fantastic resource for those who may need additional mental health support. If you are interested in learning more, please reach out to an administrator or school counselor for details.
We are incredibly grateful for the support that makes initiatives like this possible. Thank you to Dr. and Mrs. Bernat, United Way, Hazel Health, and our amazing community for making a difference in the lives of our students!
Looking forward to a strong finish to the school year!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Christine Sawicki

Dear Lowellville Families,
Welcome to the 2024-25 school year at Lowellville Schools! I hope you had a restful and enjoyable summer. We're excited to kick off another year filled with learning, growth, and new opportunities.
This year, we're continuing our focus on the Science of Reading, a crucial part of our curriculum across all grade levels. Our commitment to early literacy remains strong, with targeted strategies at every stage, from foundational skills in the early grades to advanced comprehension and vocabulary development in high school. The progress we've seen so far is promising, and we're eager to build on these successes.
Attendance will be a key focus this year as we know consistent attendance is essential for student success. We’re committed to working closely with our families to support regular attendance and ensure every student has the chance to thrive.
As we begin this new school year, I want to emphasize that my door is always open. Please feel free to reach out with any questions, concerns, or ideas. Let’s make this year our best one yet!
Best regards,
Tracie Parry
