Lowellville Local School District students, staff, parents, and community,
I hope everyone enjoyed the winter break and time with family and friends. I want to take this time to wish everyone a wonderful New Year filled with good health and happiness. It’s hard to believe that January 13, 2023, marked the end of the second nine week period. As we move into the second half of the school year, I want to remind everyone how attendance impacts academic success and strong social skills. Even a few absences can impact your child’s school experience. It’s essential to check on attendance to ensure your child(ren) is not missing school regularly. Research shows that attendance habits are formed beginning in Kindergarten and directly correlate to future achievement levels years later. According to Attendanceworks.org, missing even two days of school each month over the school year can make it harder to learn to read. If you ever have questions about attendance, you can reach out to the building principals.
Thankfully, we’ve had a very mild winter so far. However, we still have several more weeks of winter that may present us with unpredictable weather. Please know, the safety of our students and staff members is always our top priority. We understand that the decision to keep schools open or to close them in bad weather has a big impact on our families and staff members. We also know that our students benefit greatly both academically and socially when in school.
However, if there is a need to alter the daily schedule due to bad weather we will make every effort to close the schools as early as possible in order to give our families and staff members ample time to make alternate arrangements for the day. Families and staff members will be notified of school closings or delays by the All Call system. Please make sure your contact information is up to date. If you need support with updating your information please call the main office. We will also notify the media of all school closings and post the notice on our Lowellville Schools Facebook page. Again, we understand that changing the daily schedule for any reason is disruptive to families. We appreciate your cooperation every day of the year and especially so during times when we are experiencing weather that can be dangerous for our students and staff.
I am committed to working with students, parents, staff, administrators, Board of Education members, Village officials, and all community members who believe in our schools and our students. Collaboratively, we can meet the individual needs of all of our children. Have a wonderful second half of the school year and please know my door is always open. I welcome your questions, comments, and compliments.
